Plot no.- 258, owned by Jayanti Sahoo, on which her husband Rama Chandra Sahoo had constructed a four storied building, was made illegally as the BDA had given approval only for a two-storied residential complex on the plot area of 2352 sq. ft.

According to BDA Liaison Officer Subhranshu Mohanty, after finding that the building had been constructed in violation of the conditions imposed by BDA while giving approval, the authority filed a UAP case-420 against the owner in 2009. After BDA issued a demolition order against the illegal structure on July 8, 2010, an administrative notice was served to the owner for the demolition of the building in June 2013.

“We served yet another notice on the owner on Wednesday to vacate the premises soon. But the owner ignored the notice after which BDA started the demolition of the structure today,” Mohanty said, adding the demolition process will take 3-4 days.

One dozer, drilling machines and BMC trucks were pressed into service for the demolition work and to clear the debris, he added.

A total 25 squad member of BDA were involved in the demolition process in the presence of BDA Enforcement Officer Deba Prasad Dash.

To prevent any untoward incident during the demolition drive, one platoon of police force was deployed at the spot, informed Zone ACP Dillip Das.

Operation Demolition is one of the biggest drives undertaken by the BDA against illegal constructions, enforcement officials of the BDA said adding at least 32 commercial buildings in the city have no permission or clearances from the BDA and they too will be demolished in the near future.

One can not construct a single building by strictly abiding by the building plan and such deviation makes all the buildings illegal. This does not mean BDA has got the right to demolish them all. People will have to pay a price for voting a single party to power in odisha repeatedly in spite of its anti-people policies, and the day is not far when all the buildings in Bhubaneswar will be declared illegal by corrupt BDA and will be demolished one by one using brute police force.
