BDO found hanging in official quarters in Odisha; suicide suspected

Bhubaneswar: Simulia BDO Bishwaranjan Mohanty was found hanging in his official residence in Balasore district of Odisha today.

Mohanty had been appointed as the Block Development Officer (BDO) of Simulia around four months ago, sources said.

Mohanty was found hanging in his official residence at Simulia under mysterious circumstances today afternoon, sources added.

Mohanty went to his office in the morning and returned home around the noon. Employees of the block office started searching for Mohanty after he skipped a scheduled official meeting through videoconference in the afternoon.

They reached Mohanty’s official quarters and found it locked from inside. The employees broke open the front door of Mohanty’s residence and found him hanging from the ceiling fan after he did not respond to the calling bell, sources said.

On being informed, police seized the body in the presence of Simulia Tehsildar Sunil Kumar Tudu and Simulia IIC Swarnalata Minz and launched a probe into the incident.

It is suspected that Mohanty might have died by suicide.

Mohanty was working as the Tehsildar of Khunta in Balasore prior to his appointment as Simulia BDO.

Mohanty’s wife is now working as a high school teacher and the couple has a son, sources added.
