BDO, sarpanch sweep road to spread ‘Swachhata’ message in Odisha’s Keonjhar

The drive was carried out to spread the message "Swachhata hi Seva" to people and make them aware of the importance of a clean environment, official sources said. 

Keonjhar: In a bid to spread awareness about cleanliness, the block development officer of Hatadihi along with sarpanch of Dhenka panchayat and other locals took to the streets and swept the road as part of Swachh Bharat initiative in Odisha’s Keonjhar district today.

The drive was carried out to spread the message “Swachhata hi Seva” to people and make them aware of the importance of a clean environment, official sources said.

In the awareness programme held at the panchayat office, BDO Binita Bijayini and  sarpanch Subasini Sethy spoke about the significance of ‘Swachhata’ and the need to include certain lifestyle changes like avoiding use of plastic, washing hands with soap and keeping the village surroundings clean through voluntary efforts. Later, members of self help groups led by the BDO and Sarpanch were seen sweeping the village market road to spread the message. Also present were panchayat samiti member Sukanti Biswal, Naib sarpanch Ronalisa Rout, PEO Suresh Kumar Sethy, Gram Rozgar Sevak (GRS) Prafulla Majhi and officials of Rural Water Supply and Sanitation (RWSS) division.

“We organised this drive to mark 75 years of India’s independence and carry forward the Swachh Bharat Mission through increased public awareness. We swept the road with SHGs and panchayat ward members to drive home the point that cleanliness, with regard to personal hygiene and environment both, should be a way of life,” the BDO said.
