Beach cleaning drive begins in Puri on International Coastal Cleanup Day

Puri: A massive beach cleanup drive involving thousands of volunteers began at different locations in Puri district on the occasion of International Coastal Cleanup Day (ICCD) on Saturday.

The district administration initiated the campaign under the banner of ‘Mo Beach’ cleaning programme.

The students and volunteers were found joining in large numbers to clean beaches near Ramachandi Temple, Konark and Astarang area along the coastline across the district.

“We have joined the programme to keep our beach clean. We will continue our efforts to keep the beach clean not only for today, but also everyday,” said the Self Help Group (SHG) women at Konark beach.

More than 10,000 social activists gathered at Puri sea beach to be part of the cleanup drive on ICCD, which is one of the world’s largest annual preservation and protection events and volunteer efforts for ocean and beaches.
