Bear which killed man thrashed to death by villagers in Odisha’s Nabarangpur

Nabarangpur: A bear which reportedly killed a man at Bhatarasiuni village in Odisha’s Nabarangpur district was thrashed to death by villagers, this morning.

According to reports, the animal had attacked and killed a man at the village, last evening. Though locals tried to drive away the bear from the place, the animal went into the nearby forest.

Forest officials, on being informed by the villagers, reached the place. However, they were unable to drive away the bear from the forest, following which the locals hurled stones at the bear and later thrashed the animal to death with sticks.

As many as two of the Forest officials sustained injuries while trying to stop the villagers from attacking the bear.

The department has started investigation into the incident. Necessary action will be taken against those involved in the attack, an official said.
