Berhampur: The Court of Additional District & Sessions Judge-1 here today sentenced as many as eight persons to life imprisonment for killing a man at Ambagarh village under Sadar police limits in Odisha's Ganjam district in 2017.

As per reports, the convicts had attacked M Gudu Patra of the village with sharp weapons on 18 September 2017 over previous enmity. He sustained critical injuries and was admitted to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital here. However, he succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Police had registered a case in this connection and arrested the eight persons.

Adjudicating the case, the court held them guilty and pronounced the punishment.

As many as 19 witnesses were examined during the trial.

The convicts have been lodged in prison since September of 2017 due to rejection of bail plea.
