Berhampur: Many passengers of Secunderabad-Agartala Express alighted from it at the Berhampur Railway Station in Odisha's Ganjam district today as they noticed smoke billowing inside a coach of the train.

According to reports, some passengers detected smoke in B-5 AC coach of the train and alerted others.

The incident left the passengers panic-stricken as they quickly deboarded the train at the station. In view of the recent train tragedy at Bahanaga in Balasore district, the passengers refused to board the train and demanded to shift them to other coaches.

Later, the East Coast Railway clarified that it was a minor electrical short circuit and the on-duty staff resolved the issue immediately.

"It is reported that a minor electrical issue happened in the coach No. B-5 of Train No. 07030 Secunderabad-Agartala Express near Berhampur station. The on-duty staff attended immediately and rectified the issue," East Coast Railway (ECoR) said in a statement.

After being assured by the concerned authorities, the passengers eventually agreed to board the train.

The train resumed its journey after being halted at the station for around 45 minutes.
