Berhampur: A girl student of Berhampur University was found dead today while hanging with the help of a towel under mysterious circumstances in her hostel room under Gopalpur police limits in Ganjam. However, the reason behind her untimely death has not been ascertained yet.

The deceased girl was identified as Mamali Bisoyi, who belonged to Aska locality of the district. She was a Second-Year student of Economics Department in the varsity and was residing in Room No-203 of Chilika Hostel.

According to a source, Mamali had returned to her hostel room on Friday after her classes were over. The door of her room was seen closed since the evening. As the door remained closed for quite a long time, some inmates informed hostel in-charge about it. In turn, police were also intimated.

On being informed, Gopalpur police reached the spot and seized the body of the student. Police have sent the body to hospital for post-mortem and launched a probe into the suspicious death.

Police broke open the door and found the girl student dead. “She was hanging from the ceiling fan of her room. We are probing from all possible angles,” a senior cop of the PS expressed.
