Bhadrak: A day after police detained a minor boy for his alleged involvement in the double murders of a woman and her six-year old daughter in Raimani in Odisha's Bhadrak district, the body of another woman was recovered today from the crime scene. The deceased woman was identified as the minor girl's maternal grandmother Sumati Munda.

The body of Sukanti Munda (38) was first discovered from a jungle in Raimani Chowk yesterday and later, that of her six-year old daughter one km away near a pole near Raimani Chowk within Bhadrak rural police limits.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Sukanti, her husband Raju Munda and their daughter were living in Jalanga area and eked out a living as daily labourers.

On Wednesday, Sukanti and her daughter had reportedly gone to the hospital to get medicines for her husband. When they did not return, Raju took help of villagers and carried out  frantic search only to stumble across the bodies of his wife and daughter.

They then saw the minor boy in the area moving in a discrete manner. When the latter saw the villagers, he reportedly climbed a tower sparking further suspicion of his involvement.

Police on getting information reached the spot and nabbed the boy. While it is suspected that the boy carried out the crime due to a fallout over wages, Raju alleged that the minor raped his wife and killed her. He then strangled his daughter as she had witnessed the incident, he claimed.

The incident again took a turn the following day with the girl' grandmother's body recovered from the same crime spot. She too was strangled with her saree.

Police, meanwhile, maintained that the accused will be forwarded to the court following his medical examination. The exact cause of death of the three persons will be ascertained after the postmortem report arrives.
