Bhadrak rape, murder: Accused arrested from Odisha capital

Bhubaneswar: Gopinath Mohanty, the main accused of mysterious murder of a woman and rape of her daughter in Bhadrak district, was arrested in Odisha capital, police said.

Bhadrak Superintendent of Police (SP) Batula Gangadhar informed to the media. The accused has been arrested from Chandrasekharpur area in the city, he added.

The accused youth confessed to the police that he had also murdered the husband of deceased woman and raped their daughter, according to the SP.

The accused had brutally crushed the woman, identified as Bhaktilata Behuria, wife of Rabindra Behuria to death with a grinding stone and injured her daughter for unspecified reason in Talasitha village under Dhamnagar Police Station area in the district last night.

Since then Rabindra had been missing in the locality.

Earlier in the day, Sasmita (name changed), the daughter of the victims, had told police that the accused attacked her mother with a stone and killed her on the spot.

Mohanty knocked at the door of Rabi’s house. When his wife opened the door, the accused attacked her with a stone. She died on the spot after receiving grievous injuries on her head, hands and other parts of the body.

Hearing her screams, Sasmita rushed to the spot to save her mother but the accused also thrashed her mercilessly and fled the spot after tying her hand and legs.

The accused had telephoned to the woman from his husband’s mobile number before entering our house.
