Police today arrested a municipal councillor of Odisha’s Bhadrak in connection with the recent communal flare-up there.
Subhankar Mohapatra alias Kalia, councillor of ward no.15 of Bhadrak Municipality was arrested by the police today on charges of instigating violence during the communal flare-up, reports said.
With Mohapatra’s arrest, the total number of persons arrested in connection with the violence in Bhadrak stands at 170, reports added.
While violence-hit Bhadrak is limping back to normalcy, the district headquarters town still remains under curfew for 12 hours from 6 pm to 6 am as a precautionary measure.
As many as 34 platoons of Odisha police, two companies of CRPF and two companies of RAF are deployed in the town, reports said.
Notably, the communally-sensitive Bhadrak town was on the boil after some inflammatory posts were posted on social networking site leading to tension between two communities.
