“The national park will remain closed from January 2 to 8 for counting of estuarine crocodiles,” said divisional forest officer (DFO) Bimal Prasan Acharya.

Crocodiles generally don’t come to shore due to movement of boats for which boats have been prohibited in the area on second and third January. The counting of crocodiles will be conducted in remaining days, he added.

Enumeration  will be undertaken in Mahakalpada, Kanika, Gahirmatha and Patsala and Bhitarkanika under Rajnagar ranges.
