Bhitarkanika National Park to reopen from Aug 1

Kendrapara: Bhitarkanika National Park in Odisha’s Kendrapara district will reopen for the tourists from August 1.

The wildlife habitat was closed for the period of three months due to breeding season of saltwater crocodiles.

The park was closed for tourists from May 1 to July 31 during the mating and nesting seasons of saltwater crocodiles to ensure the safety of humans and provide a congenial environment for the crocodiles.

As many as 92 nests of crocodiles were counted during this year’s nesting season. As one nest was destroyed due to high tide of the sea, 32 eggs have been kept at the Dangamal Crocodile Breeding and Research Centre.
