Bhubaneswar: A new state-of-the-art Doppler Very High-Frequency Omni Range (DVOR) and Distance Measuring Equipment (DME), a radio navigational technology, has been inaugurated at the Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) as part of upgradation project of the airport.

The facility was inaugurated by Amit Banerjee, Executive Director of CNS (Communications, Navigation and Surveillance) and SP Yadav, Regional Executive Director, Eastern Region. Total project cost of the new instruments is approx Rs 4 crore, said an official.

DVOR is a ground-based radio navigational aid that provides bearing information aircraft to define air traffic control routes for en-route, terminal and instrument approach/depature procedures. DVOR, when collocated with DME, provides both the angle and slant distance of aircraft with respect to the ground station.
