Bhubaneswar: A major fire erupted at the godown of Odisha State Medical Corporation (OSMC) located in the Mancheswar Industrial Estate area here last night reducing medicines and other properties worth lakhs of rupees to ashes.
The incident resulted in the damage of the entire warehouse. Fortunately, no individuals were injured in the blaze, which started at around 11:30 pm.
Prompt action was taken, with seven fire-fighting vehicles and water tankers dispatched to the scene to control the situation.
Throughout the night, Fire Services personnel worked tirelessly to extinguish the flames. The godown stored a substantial quantity of COVID care-related materials, including masks, sanitizers, PPE kits, and oxygen cylinders, belonging to the Odisha State Medical Corporation Limited.
To gain access to the building and combat the fire, the team had to utilize a JCB to break through the walls of the godown, thereby preventing the blaze from spreading to other areas.
Though the reason behind the outbreak of fire was yet to be ascertained, it is being suspected that electrical short circuit might have led to the accident.
