Bhubaneswar gears up for winter with trendy woollen clothing

Bhubaneswar: The chill in the air with the advent of winter has city denizens drag out the trunks filled with winterwear and quilts stashed away for the rest of the year. They can also be seen rushing to buy woollen clothes.

To meet the demand of Bhubaneswarites, gearing up for the winter days ahead, stalls selling winterwear have come up in the city with colourful apparels, including sweaters, jackets, mufflers, gloves, socks, shawls, blankets, on display, in a bid to attract customers.

Leather jackets, woolen sweaters, half-sleeved jackets, high neck jackets (with mandarin collar), scarves, stoles, mufflers of various lengths and shades are being stocked by the sellers keeping the fashion trend of Odisha capital in mind.

“Though the weather hasn’t turned that cold, cotton jackets are preferred by women over the woollen ones. Similarly, college girls choose woollen sweaters, as they are easy to pair with a pair of jeans. Prices of jackets range from Rs. 1500 to Rs. 2500, while price range of sweaters starts from Rs. 1000,” said Balaram Dalai of Fbb Big Bazar.

He further stated that men favoured leather jackets during this season. The warm clothing collection also has a stock of partywear accessories such as embellished and embroidered scarfs and winter shrugs. For children, it is mostly cartoon-themed.

Sellers of winter garments from Haryana, Punjab and even Nepal have erected stalls in Bhubaneswar, as well. “These garments costs more in a showroom. However, these stalls sell them at a lesser price, have a varied collection and the products also last longer. What else does a middle-class man need?” asks Golak Bihari Pradhan, a shopper at Unit I market in Bhubaneswar.
