Bhubaneswar: Locals accuse Airfield Police Station IIC of playing badminton with murder accused

Bhubaneswar: Tension ran high at the Airfield Police Station in Odisha capital last evening as many residents of Sundarpada village gheraoed it alleging that the IIC of the police station was spending time with several murder accused.

They claimed that the police official has been playing badminton with the accused men in the locality.

According to reports, Raghunath Barik, Rashmi Barik, Tushar Behera, Biswajit Routray and Rajesh Nayak had on November 20 intercepted Amaresh Rout of Sundarpada’s Talasahi while he was returning home with a woman on a motorcycle.

They thrashed and injured Amaresh, following which the victim lodged a complaint in this regard with the Airfield police.

Though police registered a case against the attackers under relevant sections of the IPC, no action was taken against them.

The villagers have alleged that Raghunath, Biswajit and Rajesh are prime accused in the sensational Amaresh Nayak murder case of 2019. Similarly, Rashmi is accused in the sweets shop owner murder incident in Samantarapur, they said, adding that Tushar was involved in a kidnapping.

Instead of arresting them, the IIC was seen playing badminton with them, they said.

As they gheraoed the police station opposing the incident, ACP Anirudha Routray reached the place and tried to pacify the locals.

As per the direction of the ACP, the Airfield police detained Raghunath and initiated efforts to trace others.
