Bhubaneswar: A man allegedly murdered a married woman by slitting her throat and later tried to end his life by cutting his wrist at her house in Bhimatangi area of Odisha capital today, police said.
The deceased has been identified as Priyanka Priyadarshini Sahoo.
“A married woman’s body has been recovered from a house in Bhimatangi area. She was lying dead in a pool of blood when police reached the spot. An unknown youth was also found lying unconscious with injury marks on his wrist. He was rushed to hospital for treatment,” said Bhubaneswar DCP Umashankar Dash.
The accused, Jagannath Pradhan, was rushed to the Capital Hospital here for treatment. After his condition improved, his statement was recorded by police.
According to sources, the husband of the deceased — Rakesh Sahoo — who works with Eureka Forbes was not at home when the incident took place.
While 26-year-old Priyanka hailed from Jaraka, Rakesh is a resident of Kuakhia in Jajpur district. The duo got married in 2014 and has a three-year-old son.
According to police, the accused was known to the deceased. In the past few months, their relationship had turned sour. The accused hailed from Mangalpur in Jajpur district.
The couple was staying in a rented house in Bhimatangi Housing Board colony, phase I.
Rakesh got a WhatsApp video call from an unknown number at 12.25 pm this noon, purportedly from Jagannath. A terrified Rakesh called up his landlord to check the veracity of the call. The landlord and his son broke open the door to find the tenant and an unknown person lying in a pool of blood in two separate rooms.
The husband of the deceased dialed police emergency number who swung into action. The cops reached the spot to investigate the crime.
Police found a handwritten note beside the body in which it was written ‘I will kill Priyanka and her son.”
Police said that the accused had hatched a plan to kill the woman and her kid. While he killed the woman and attempted to end his life, the kid luckily survived as he was playing at the landlord’s house.
The accused has confessed to his crime. Two knives have also been recovered from the scene.
