Bhubaneswar: Man thrashed at de-addiction centre dies during treatment in hospital

Bhubaneswar: A man who was allegedly thrashed at a de-addiction centre in Bhotapada area under Mancheswar police limits in Odisha capital died while undergoing treatment a private hospital here, today.

The deceased was identified as Sarbeswar Behera. According to reports, he was critically injured after being assaulted by three persons at the de-addiction centre and later hospitalised.

Behera succumbed to injuries at the healthcare facility during treatment.

On the basis of a complaint lodged by Behera’s wife, police had yesterday arrested the accused trio.

He was admitted to the de-addiction centre as he was consuming liquor excessively. One of the accused had allegedly taken Rs 7,000 from his wife.

Days later, she came to know that her husband was thrashed by the three and admitted to the hospital. On reaching the hospital, she found out that he was being treated in the ICU of the hospital.

Police have registered a case in this matter while further probe was underway.
