Bhubaneswar reports all-time high in COVID-19 cases; Superspreader infects 35 more in flour mill

Bhubaneswar: Panic spread among residents, who consumed flour of a particular brand, as a ‘superspreader’ of a flour mill has infected 35 more at Mancheswar area in Bhubaneswar.

The newly infected persons are all male between age groups of 18 and 65 years. They are linked with an earlier positive case.

Yesterday, 26 positive cases had been detected from the flour mill in Mancheswar sparking fear among consumers.

The first COVID-19 positive case at the flour mill was reported last week. Later, six more persons were found positive for the deadly virus. With 35 cases reported today from the mill, the total number of infected persons at the particular workplace rose to 68.

Today, Bhubaneswar witnessed an all-time high of 126 new COVID-19 cases in a single day breaching 1400-mark.

Of fresh cases, 93 have been reported from quarantine centres and 33 are local contacts, informed Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) today.

Similarly, 9 cases have been detected near 7th Battalion in Chandrasekharpur area under BMC. They have link with an earlier positive case.

With the fresh cases of 126, the tally in Bhubaneswar surged to 1469 with 651 active cases.

Meanwhile, 81 COVID-19 patients have recovered from the disease in the city yesterday taking total number of recovered cases to 805 as on July 22. The virus has claimed 11 lives in the state capital so far.
