Bhubaneswar: Sex racket running in guise of consultancy firm busted

Bhubaneswar: The Twin City Commissionerate Police have busted a sex racket that was running in the guise of a consultancy firm in Satya Vihar area under Mancheswar police limits in Odisha capital.

While the owner of the consultancy company, identified as Laxmi Narayan Pattanayak, was arrested, four women engaged in the flesh trade have been rescued by the cops.

As per reports, a woman employee of the firm had lodged a complaint with the police alleging about the offence. On the basis of the FIR, a police team raided the place and apprehended the accused.

Another accused managed to flee the spot by scaling the boundary wall during the raid. Efforts were on by the cops to trace and nab him. Further investigation by police was underway.

“An immoral trafficking case has been registered in this connection. The concerned IIC has been directed to examine, and if necessary, steps will be taken for declaration of brothel house,” said Bhubaneswar DCP Umashankar Dash.

Earlier in September this year, police had busted a sex racket running at a hotel in Bharatpur area here and two youths were arrested. As many as eight women from West Bengal were rescued in the case.

Acting on a tip-off, the police had raided an OYO hotel located in K-1, Kalinganagar area. During the search, police found the women and youths in a compromising position. The cops also seized liquor bottles and some incriminating articles from the hotel. The owner of the hotel managed to escape during the raid.

Prior to that, a sex racket operating at a guest house under Laxmisagar police limits in the city was also busted.

The Laxmisagar police conducted a raid on the guest house situated at Budheswari Colony locality and detained a young woman and three customers. During the raid, the police also seized a huge quantity of objectionable items from the guest house.
