Bhubaneswar: For the first time in the 17-year reign of Biju Janata Dal (BJD) government, the Cabinet meeting is going to be held at a venue other than Odisha capital, convened by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in Puri tomorrow.

As per informed sources, the Cabinet meeting scheduled at 11 am in Circuit House of holy city will be chaired by Chief Minister and attended by ministers, bureaucrats.

Speculation is rife that Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will announce some pro-people schemes at the meeting tomorrow which coincides with the 20th anniversary of BJD’s Foundation Day.

Ever since it came to power in March, 2000, this is the first occasion where the Cabinet meeting will be held outside the capital city.

Prior to the meeting, Naveen will offer his obeisance to Lord Jagannath in the Pilgrim town, six days ahead of schedule as he unfailingly visits the 12th century shrine on January 1 every year to seek His blessings, barring ‘few’ occasions.

From the temple, Patnaik would head towards Swargadwara to pay homage to legendary Biju Patnaik before leaving for Circuit House for the all-crucial meeting.

The beach town will be hosting one more important function tomorrow – BJD Foundation Day at Talabania.

Patnaik would address the party workers on this occasion for which elaborate arrangement have been put in place.

“My heartfelt gratitude to people of Odisha for reposing faith in us & our party @bjd_odisha which is completing 20 years. I will join #BJDFoundationDay celebrations at #Puri tomorrow to commit ourselves again to service of our people. Let our work speak for us. Jai Jagannath!,” BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik tweeted.

On the other hand, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) – which is eyeing to wrest power from BJD – continued to attack the state government.

At a press conference held here today, BJP general secretary Prithviraj Harichandan today posed 20 questions to the Naveen-led government as the ruling party is celebrating its 20th anniversary tomorrow.

“The BJD will be celebrating its 20th anniversary with much fanfare tomorrow. But, it has neglected many vital issues being in power for so long. We ask Naveen Patnaik to reply to 20 questions on this occasion on behalf of the people of Odisha,” the BJP leader said.

The posers included the mining scam, chit fund scam, farmers’ issues, and employment among others.

The ruling BJD, however, termed it as ‘political drama’.
