Big cat reaches Odisha’s Satkosia Tiger Reserve from MP. Watch video

Angul: For the first time in the country, a Royal Bengal Tiger was relocated to Satkosia Tiger Reserve in Angul district from Madhya Pradesh here today.

The Royal Bengal Tiger was brought to Angul in a special vehicle from Kanha Tiger Reserve in Madhya Pradesh.

The special vehicle carrying the wild big cat reached Satkosia in the afternoon. The wild animal will be released into the Tiger Reserve after examining health condition.

A joint team of forest officials from Madhya Pradesh, Odisha and the National Tiger Conservation Authority safely brought the Bengal Tiger to Angul.

The tiger was relocated as part of the initiative by the state government to increase tiger population in Satkosia Tiger Reserve, which houses only two tigers aged about 13 years.

According to reports, total six Bengal Tigers (three pairs) will be relocated to Odisha as part of the government’s plan. Five more Royal Bengal Tigers will be brought to Satkosia in phases.

The forest officials have made plan to keep the tigers in specific locations in the forest. The first Bengal Tiger that reached today is expected to be kept at Raiguda range of Satkosia forest division.

Odisha government has made allocation of around Rs 3 crore in the budget to release the Bengal Tigers in the forests. Besides, the Wildlife Institute of India will provide around Rs 5-6 crore towards technical assistance for keeping the tigers in the protected forest. The movement of tigers will be monitored through satellite in the dense forests.
