Bhubaneswar: Fishermen at Paradip town in Odisha received around Rs 25 lakh by selling 3 quintals of Telia Borei fish today.
The fishermen caught at least 17 Telia Borei fish from the sea near Paradip in the morning.
“We caught 17 Telia Borei fish while undertaking fishing in the sea through a trawler today morning. We immediately returned to Paradeep Fishing Harbour and auctioned the prized catch,” said a fisherman.
Some private parties purchased the fish by paying around Rs 25 lakh to the fishermen. They purchased the fish at around Rs 8,000 per kg, he added.
“Telia Borei fish are occasionally caught in deep sea. They have many medicinal qualities. Their body parts are used in the manufacturing of drugs and cosmetics. The rare fish are in huge demand among pharmaceutical companies in India and abroad,” he added.
