Bijoy dares Naveen to contest polls from Patkura

Bhubaneswar: A day after Biju Janata Dal (BJD) nominated late Bed Prakash Agarwalla’s wife Savitri as its candidate for elections to Patkura Assembly Constituency, senior leader and BJP candidate for the seat Bijoy Mahapatra today challenged party Supremo and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to fight the poll battle against him.

The four time MLA from Patkura Constituency of Kendrapara district also alleged that the ruling party is conspiring to stop the elections in the segment.

“Since the beginning of the four-phase elections in the State, the ruling party had been hatching a well-knitted conspiracy to delay the polls in this particular constituency. Now the party has started conspiring to cancel the election in the segment,” the senior BJP leader alleged.

Mohapatra said without wasting time in hatching such conspiracies, the party Supremo (Naveen) should take a decision to contest the polls himself in Patkura.

“Even former CM Biju Patnaik was an MLA candidate from Patkura and had won the elections from the constituency during his days. I had also won a by-poll from the Assembly segment in 1980. Since he has taken charge of the state for so many years, I want to advise him to take responsibility of Patkura Assembly Constituency after his father and file nomination for the same,” challenged the 68-year-old leader.

Meanwhile, CM Naveen today met the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) in Delhi today to approach the latter for postponement of polling in Patkura on account of the possible cyclonic storm Fani.
