“Government of India too has a role in the immunization programme. It has research institutes and the necessary specialization. Immunization is their job. The Central government didn’t act and the state government failed. As a result of which people are suffering there,” Mohapatra said.

The BJP however, distanced itself from Mohapatra’s statement terming it that it could be his personal opinion.

“See, that could be his personal opinion. The BJP’s official stand is that due to the inefficiency of the state government children are dying here. The Central government is always ready to extend whatever help the state may require at any point of time,” clarified Golakh Mohapatra, BJP spokesperson in his reaction to Mohapatra’s statement.

“The Centre should not turn away from its responsibilities with its ministers indulging in mere propaganda. The Central and the state governments should do as recommended by the experts at this critical juncture when children are dying,” said Amar Prasad Satpathy commenting on BJP spokesperson’s statement.
