Bhubaneswar: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) will oppose the no-confidence motion proposed by various opposition parties against the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the parliament, said party's Rajya Sabha MP Sasmit Patra today.

This decision by Odisha's ruling party holds significance as it will lend crucial support to the Modi government at the Centre, aiding it in moving closer to the halfway mark in Rajya Sabha. It is worth noting that the BJP-led NDA does not possess an absolute majority in the Upper House on its own.

The BJD has nine MPs in Rajya Sabha.

The party has also decided to extend its support to the bill that aims to replace the Delhi services ordinance, said Patra.

Official sources said that the discussion on the no-confidence motion is likely to be taken up between August 8 and 10.

Prime minister Narendra Modi may reply to the discussion on August 10, sources added.
