Sambalpur, Nov 9:

BJD district president Rohit Pujari has demanded a Food Park by the Aditya Birla Group here.

In a recent letter to Revenue Divisional Commissioner (RDC), PK Meherda, Pujari has said that the AB Group, which is coming up with a mega Food Park project worth Rs 200 crore at Amethi in UP, should set up a similar project since it has three industrial units coming up here.

The proposed Food Park in UP will have 50 units and it will provide direct jobs to around 2,500 people, besides offering indirect employment to 25,000 others and benefit to nearly 40,000 farmers. Cold storage units in the area will also get a boost, Pujari said in his letter.

“Aditya Birla Group has three industries set up by its subsidiary Hindalco in Sambalpur district and the local farmers and common people are bearing the brunt of the pollution caused by these units. Considering this, the Hindalco management should give back to the farmers of the district by putting up a similar project here,” Pujari said in his letter.

He also suggested setting up of a cargo terminal either at Sambalpur or at Jharsuguda airstrip from where processed food items could be sent to other parts of the country.

“It will also divert the farmers towards cash crop and strengthen their financial condition,” he asserted.
The BJD leader also appealed to the members of Rehabilitation and Peripheral Development Advisory Committee (RPDAC), local MP and MLA to take necessary steps in this regard.
