A bison calf namely 'Gouri' died at the Nandankanan Zoological Park on the outskirts of Odisha capital this morning.

Gouri, born on June 18 last year, was under treatment for gastritis. The animal had also undergone an urinary bladder operation on June 28 after facing difficulties in urination.

After the operation, Gouri's health condition was under supervision. However, the bison calf took its last breath at around 4.45 am today, sources said.

The reason behind the death can be ascertained after autopsy, zoo officials said.

It may be recalled that twenty-one-year-old tigress Sushama had died at the zoo, yesterday. She was undergoing treatment for her old age-related complications.
