Bizarre! Liquor trader held with expired beer stocks in Odisha consumes bleaching powder

Bhubaneswar: A liquor trader, who was arrested on charges of holding large quantities of expired beer in Odisha’s Balasore district, reportedly made an attempt to end his life in the custody of the Excise department today.

Naba Kishore Ray, the owner of a licenced liquor shop at Patrapada in Balasore, was arrested by the Excise department sleuths after the seizure of at least 1,080 cans of expired beer from his possession yesterday.

The Excise department had sealed Naba Kishore’s liquor outlet for flouting the rules around a month ago. However, he was selling liquor illegally in the locality, sources said.

The Excise department officials had raided the place yesterday and seized the expired beer from Naba Kishore’s possession. They had arrested Naba Kishore and one of his employees in connection with the incident before launching a probe in this regard.

Naba Kishore reportedly consumed bleaching powder in a toilet in a suicide attempt in the custody of the Excise department.
