BJD appoints transgender Meera Parida as party observer

Bhubaneswar: The ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) today appointed transgender social activist Meera Parida as party observer for Bhubaneswar Central Assembly constituency.

BJD President Naveen Patnaik has approved Meera’s appointment, a statement issued by the party said this evening.

The Bhubaneswar Central Assembly seat will go to polls in the third phase on April 23 and Susanta Kumar Rout is the party candidate from the segment.

Meera, the Chairperson of All Odisha Kinnar Mahasangha, was earlier made the Vice President of party’s women’s wing – Biju Mahila Janata Dal after she joined the ruling dispensation in March.
