BJD Mahila Morcha protests LPG price hike by lighting chullah in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: Opposing the LPG cylinder price hike by the Central Government, Biju Mahila Janata Dal members today staged protest near the Raj Bhawan here by lighting chullahs (earthen stove).

Holding placards, the BJD Mahila Morcha activists raised slogans and criticized the decision of the Central Government.

Senior BJD leader Soumya Ranjan Patnaik, who was present at the demonstration, said, “While the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana was launched to provide LPG cylinders to poor people, frequent price hike has made them unaffordable.”

Similarly, BJD Spokesperson Shreemayee Mishra said the Central Government has started cheating the people of Odisha. The government had earlier discontinued provision of free rice for the poor and now it has hiked the domestic LPG cylinder price by Rs 50, she said.

“Though the BJD has been supporting many initiatives of the Central Government, it will not support such anti-people move of the Modi government,” she added.
