Sambalpur: BJD Rajya Sabha MP Prasanna Acharya suffered critical injuries after his car collided with a gas tanker near Beladihi in Rairakhol area of Odisha's Sambalpur district, late last night.

He was undergoing treatment in the ICU of a private hospital in Sambalpur. His condition was stated to be stable.

The collision between his car and the gas tanker occurred on NH-55 Sambalpur-Rairakhol road.

The Personal Security Officer (PSO) of the BJD leader also sustained critical injuries in the accident while the driver of the ill-fated vehicle sustained minor injuries.

Acharya was on his way back to Bargarh from Bhubaneswar when the accident took place. Police have detained the truck driver for questioning.

As of the latest update, the parliamentarian's condition was reported to be stable.
