BJD pushed Odisha backwards: Mallikarjun Kharge

Bhubaneswar: All India Congress Committee (AICC) president Mallikarjun Kharge today alleged that the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) government in Odisha has pushed the state backwards.

“The BJD had promised to transform Odisha but pushed the state backwards. It is also hand in glove with the BJP and the Modi government,” said Kharge in a twitter (X) post soon after chairing a meeting of Congress leaders from Odisha in New Delhi today.

The people of Odisha are fed up of corruption, unemployment, inflation, farm sector distress and ill treatment to tribals and weaker sections, claimed the AICC president.

Kharge convened the meeting to chalk out a strategy for the next year’s Parliamentary and Assembly elections in Odisha.

Earlier, AICC general secretary and Odisha in-charge A Chellakumar alleged that the BJD government is involved in large-scale corruption in the state.

The Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) is planning to bring out a chargesheet against the BJD government to expose the scams that had taken place in the state in the last several years, he said.

OPCC president Sarat Pattanayak said the Congress party will go to the people and create public opinion against the ‘corrupt’ BJD government in the state.

“Mining scam, Chitfund scam and several such scams have taken place in Odisha during the BJD rule. We will raise all these issues before the people,” Pattanayak said.

Former AICC president Rahul Gandhi and at least 30 senior leaders of the party from Odisha including former OPCC presidents Niranjan Patnaik and Jaydev Jena, Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Narasingha Mishra, MLAs Tara Prasad Bahinipati and Santosh Singh Saluja, and OPCC campaign committee chief Bijay Patnaik were present at the meeting.
