BJD registers win in ward by-poll in Paradip, Pattamundai

Bhubaneswar: In what can be termed as a small morale booster for Odisha’s ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) ahead of the Bijepur by-election, the party registered victory in two ward by-polls in Paradip and Pattamundai.

In the by-poll for the post of councillor of Paradip municipality’s ward no. 6, BJD candidate Rashmita Das defeated her nearest rival Gayatri Nayak of BJP by 58 votes.

The post had fallen vacant after the death of Manjulata Jena on May 30, last year. All eyes were on the result of the by-poll, especially after the dismissal of BJD’s Paradip MLA Damodar Rout from Council of Ministers as Agriculture & Farmers’ Empowerment Minister.

On the other hand, BJD candidate Ranjit Mallick won Pattamundai municipality’s ward no. 17 by-poll by defeating his nearest Congress rival by 92 votes.
