BJD releases second list of candidates for Odisha Assembly polls

Bhubaneswar: Ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) President and Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today declared the second list of candidates for nine Assembly seats in the State. The party has dropped its three sitting MLAs in the fresh list.

The party has has re-nominated its sitting MLA Raseswari Panigrahi from Sambalpur constituency while Rohit Pujari will contest from Rairakhol seat.

Newbie Arkesh Singh Deo, the youngest son of former Balangir MLA and Naveen’s friend Ananga Udaya Singh Deo, got the party ticket for Balangir constituency. The Royal scion will contest against Congress veteran and sitting MLA Narasingha Mishra.

The party has fielded Mukund Sodi, who recently crossed over to the BJD from BJP, from Malkangiri seat replacing outgoing MLA Manas Madkami.

Former Jharsuguda MLA Kishore Kumar Mohanty has been fielded by the party from Brajrajnagar Assembly seat in Jharsuguda district, who will compete against BJP’s Radharani Panda.

Pritam Padhi, a new face, is the BJD candidate from Pottangi Assembly seat in Koraput district. The party has fielded Pradeep Kumar from Loisinga Assembly constituency in Balangir district.

Prakash Chandra Majhi is the BJD candidate from Jharigam Assembly seat under Nabarangpur Parliamentary constituency.

Pradip Kumar Dishari, who fought 2014 assembly elections from Lanjigarh (Kalahandi district) assembly segment (reserved for ST candidate) on a Congress ticket and recently joined the BJD, is the candidate from Lanjigarh for the ruling party.

Of the names of the nine candidates announced today, four candidates are for the first phase poll scheduled on April 11, three candidates for the second phase poll on April 18 while two candidates for the third phase poll scheduled to be held on April 23.

Earlier in the month, the BJD had declared candidates for nine Lok Sabha and 54 Assembly seats.

Odisha has 21 Lok Sabha and 147 Assembly constituencies, which will face simultaneous Lok Sabha and Assembly polls in four phases from April 11.
