BJD suspends members for anti-party activities

Odisha’s ruling Biju Janata Dal today suspended several party members for anti-party activities.

Party president Naveen Patnaik approved the suspension on these members, barely three weeks ahead of the voting for the three-tier panchayat polls in the state.

According to sources, as many as seven party members have been suspended, majority of whom are contesting in the upcoming elections.

In Puri district, Astaranga Block Zone 1 Zilla Parishad nominee Panchanan Swain, Zone 2 Zilla Parishad candidate Surendra Barik and Gop Block Zone 14 Zilla Parishad aspirant Mohammad Samsul Arfeen have been suspended. Similary, Sukadev Mallick from Tihidi Block in Bhadrak district have been suspended. Besides, Zilla Parishad Zone 49 candidate Rama Khandual from Belaguntha Block under Sorada constituency in Ganjam district, Ranjan Kumar Khandual from Belaguntha area; and former Zilla Parisha member Ramakrushna Swain have also been suspended.
