Bhubaneswar: Adding another feather in its victory cap, Odisha's ruling BJD swept the bypoll to Jharsuguda Assembly Constituency with a margin over 48,000 votes.

Dipali Das, who is the candidate of BJD, won the votes by 48619 votes defeating BJP's Tankadhar Tripathy in the bypoll. She broke the record of vote margin of her slain father Naba Das, who had won by 45699 votes in 2019 Assembly Elections from Jharsuguda.

While Dipali garnered 107003 votes, Tankadhar received 58384 votes and Congress' Tarun Pandey got only 4473 votes in the bypoll.

Celebrating the biggest occassion of her political career, Dipali owed her success to people of Jharsuguda.

"This is the victory of people of Jharsuguda, of those who loved my father. This is a victory of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and all BJD workers and people who were associated with my father. This is a victory of Naba Das," said Dipali after registering a big win in Jharsuguda bypoll.

"First of all, I would like to thank all people of Jharsuguda for the verdict. Secondly, I thank CM Naveen Patnaik for keeping his faith on me, and I thank all the senior leaders of BJD who had stood by me throughout the campaign. The name and existence of Naba Das has returned to Jharsuguda with this victory. From today, nobody can stop development of Jharsuguda," she added.

Chief Minister and BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik, who had visited Jharsuguda to campaign for the party candidate Dipali, congratulated her on landslide victory in the bye election.

As per candidate-wise report released by the Election Commission of India (ECI), total 107198 votes (both EVM and postal votes) were cast in favour of BJD candidate Dipali Das, BJP candidate Tankadhar received 58477 votes and Congress nominee Tarun Pandey got 4496 votes after end of 19th or final round of vote counting.

With completion of final round of vote counting, BJD's Dipali Das emerged as the victorious with 48,721 vote margin.

However, Jharsuguda registered total 2074 NOTA votes in the bypoll.
