Bhubaneswar: Odisha's ruling Biju Janata Dal will launch a programme “Ghare ghare sankha” (conch shell at every household) tomorrow on the occasion of birth anniversary of legendary leader and former chief minister Biju Patnaik. Party supremo Naveen Patnaik will launch the programme at the party headquarters tomorrow morning.

Announcing this at a press conference here today, party spokesman Arun Sahoo said under the programme the views of the public will be elicited before the preparation of the party’s manifesto on the eve of the coming general elections. Members of the BJD women wing will visit the households and hand over printed forms to collect the views of the people over the government’s performance and their expectation from it if it comes to power in the fifth consecutive term.

Another party spokesperson Sasmit Patra said the form has been divided into three parts. The first part deals with the public opinion on the government’s performance. In the second part, people will give their opinion on what more they expect from the government if it comes back to power in the next term. The party seeks the suggestion from the public as to what demands the party will put forth before the Central government.

It may be noted that the BJD has been harping on the Central apathy of Odisha, be it UPA or NDA.

BJD leaders say that the people have been extending their support to the party for the last four consecutive terms for its developmental and welfare programmes based on the dreams and ideals of Biju Patnaik. The party will, therefore, celebrate the Biju birth anniversary tomorrow at the grass root level to connect with voters on the eve of the coming general elections. The party leaders, MLAs and workers have been asked to celebrate the occasion at their respective constituency level. Besides, there will be a state level function at the party headquarters, which will be addressed by the party supremo and senior party leaders.
