BJD to raise Mahanadi, Polavaram issue in Parliament during winter session

Bhubaneswar: A day before the beginning of winter session of Parliament, Odisha Chief Minister and Biju Janata Dal (BJD) supremo Naveen Patnaik today convened a meeting of BJD parliamentary party to formulate strategies for the session.

The conch party has decided to raise several issues in the Parliament including those of Mahanadi river water sharing dispute between Odisha and Chhattisgarh, Polavaram project by Andhra Pradesh government, delay in railway project works in the state and paddy MSP hike demand.

“Our prime agenda will be to oppose the Centre’s partiality towards Chhattisgarh in the Mahanadi issue. Besides, issues related to Polavaram project and delay in railway projects in the state will be raised by the party. We will also reiterate our demand for hike in minimum support price (MSP) for paddy,” said Kalikesh Singh Deo, spokesperson, BJD parliamentary party.

“Other major issues are the paddy minimum support price, a second bridge over Brahmani river and non-revision of the royalty of coal even though Odisha is a coal-bearing state,” said BJD’s Rajya Sabha member Pratap Deb.

All the 28 MPs of the party, including 20 Lok Sabha members and eight Rajya Sabha members, were present at the meeting.

The winter session of Parliament will be held from December 15 to January 5.
