BJD wins big in Berhampur as its candidate Sanghamitra Dalei elected Mayor

Berhampur: Ruling Biju Janta Dal (BJD) grabbed the Mayor post of Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) as its candidate Sanghamitra Dalei won the seat with a huge margin.

As per the official figures, Sanghamitra was elected as Berhampur Mayor defeating her rival candidate from BJP Sabita Suar with a margin of 20,236 votes.

While a total of 79,719 votes went to BJD, BJP garnered 56,322 and Congress 4392 votes, respectively.

After her victory, the three-time Corporator expressed her gratitude to all people of the city for electing her, reposing their faith in Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.

“I will take Berhampur to new heights with all-round development. My focus will be health, sanitation,  cleanliness and beautification of the city,” she said.

Worth mentioning, the seat was lying vacant since 2018 after Ganjam District and Sessions Judge Court declared K Madhavi’s election to the post as null and void.
