BJD’s Subhash Singh elected Cuttack Mayor

Bhubaneswar: Rajya Sabha member Subhash Chandra Singh registered a landslide victory in Odisha ULB polls as he was elected as the Mayor of Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC).

Singh, who was contesting the urban body elections as the Mayor candidate of the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) for CMC, won the polls by a huge margin of 45,206 votes from his rival candidate Giribala Behera of Congress.

While he bagged total 1,13,562 votes, votes went to Giribala Behera and BJP’s Mayor candidate Sritam Das were 68,356 and 49,223 respectively.

Subhash Singh was elected to Rajya Sabha from Odisha on March 24, 2020. He also served as the national spokesperson for the BJD.

Prior to being nominated to the Upper House of Parliament, he had served as Chairperson of Odisha Building & Other Construction Workers Welfare Board for two consecutive terms. He was also the founder member and general secretary of Biju Shramik Shamukhya, a trade union wing of BJD.
