BJP activists vandalize BDO office in Odisha’s Chandbali

Scores of BJP workers today laid siege on the Block Development Officer’s (BDO) office at Chandbali in Odisha’s Bhadrak district today in protest against the discrepancies in the list of PDS beneficiaries under National Food Security Act (NFSA).

Hundreds of saffron party workers who had gheraoed the BDO office went berserk and gatecrashed into the office building damaging furniture, computers and other articles whatever came their way, reports said.

The protestors uprooted the collapsible iron gates of the BDO office before damaging office furniture, computers and destroying documents.

The perimeter wall of the office was damaged when angry protestors tried to scale it. A platoon of policemen deployed at the office had no other option than stand as mute spectators in face of the fury of the BJP workers.

BJP workers led by former minister and senior party leader Manmohan Samal who came in a rally gheraoed the BDO office alleging large-scale discrepancies in the ration cards issued under NFSA.

“From newspapers, I came to know about the BJP’s programme and accordingly I had informed the local police station and police was deployed. In spite of that, a mob led by Manmohan Samal, Bishnu Sethi and local BJP leaders went on a rampage. I have identified some of them and will be lodging a complaint with the police against those involved in the incident,” said Chandbali BDO Manoj Kumar Patra.

“We have decided not to come to the office till these persons are arrested,” said an employee of the BDO office.

Later in the day, Chandbali BDO Manoj Kumar Patra has lodged complaint against 40 demonstrators.
