BJP dares Odisha Govt to shut employment exchange offices across State

Bhubaneswar: Targeting the State government over unemployment issue, the BJP’s youth wing today threatened to lock up the employment exchange offices across Odisha on November 5.

“The BJP Yuva Morcha will launch a drive on November 5 to lock up all the employment exchange offices across the State,” said the president of the youth wing Tankadhar Tripathy here today.

Addressing a press conference at the party’s State headquarters in Bhubaneswar, Tripathy said, “the State government led by Naveen Patnaik has been deceiving the youths without generating employment.

He alleged that the employment exchange office in Bhubaneswar has turned into ‘government club’ of BJD.

“The unemployment issue has risen in Odisha. The system under which the educated unemployed youths were registering in the employment exchange office with a hope that they will receive notification for government jobs, has drastically failed. The State Employment Exchange office has turned a ‘government club’ of BJD,” the youth leader said.

He alleged that the commitment by the government since 2000 has turned out to be false. The youths are leaving homes in search of jobs outside the State. As there is no job for them in Odisha, either they are engaged as the daily labourers in other States for livelihoods, or they opt to commit suicide.

“The government does not feel any necessity of the employment exchange offices. Neither the government is generating employment for the youths, who have been already registered in the offices, nor eligible candidates are getting jobs through these offices,” Tripathy told media reporters.

According to the economic survey released in 2016, 2.28 lakh people had applied for the jobs in various government sectors, only 1144 people were recruited in the State, he said.

Instead of providing the jobs through exchange office, the government is hiring the highly educated youths with help of a parallel agency on contractual basis at a package of only Rs 10,000 per month, he added.

He demanded the government to release the list of construction workers registered in the State. In name of construction workers, the government is distributing cycles to BJD activists.
