BJP demands probe into Das Burma’s links with Ponzi firm

Accusing beleaguered Odisha Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Sanjay Das Burma of having built his wealth out of chit fund money, the BJP demanded a probe into the Minister’s alleged links with arrested Bairi Ganjan Das, chief of SLB Media and Entertainment Pvt Ltd, a Ponzi firm.

“SLB Media and Entertainment Pvt Ltd owned by Bairi Ganjan Das was earlier publishing a daily ‘Sarbasadharana’ now it is being published by Team Media and Hospitality Pvt Ltd owned by family members of Sanjay Das Burma. Das Burma’s father, wife, and brother-in-law (wife’s brother) are directors in the company. Though the Commissionerate Police was aware of Das Burma’s links with Das but it never bothered to probe it. In 2013, employees of SLB Media and Entertainment Pvt Ltd had lodged a complaint with the police regarding non-payment of salary by the company and Das transferring the company to Das Burma.  The investigating officer did not bother to probe in detail into the charges or question the minister which shows the Commissionerate Police was trying to save the minister,” alleged Samir Mohanty, state vice-president of BJP at a press meet here.

Bairiranjan Das, proprietor of SLB Media and Entertainment Pvt Ltd was caught by the depositors and handed over to the Nayapalli police in September 2015, Mohanty said.

“All these indicate that money of the chit fund firm has been invested in Das Burma’s firm. Why is the Commissionerate Police not probing or interrogating Das Burma on this account?” asked the BJP state vice-president
