BJP farmers’ wing meets Odisha Guv over drought situation

A day prior to the commencement of winter session of the Odisha Assembly, a delegation of BJP’s farmers’ wing today submitted a memorandum on drought situation in the state to Governor SC Jamir seeking his intervention into the matter.

The delegation of BJP Krushak Morcha presented a 12-point charter of demands on drought situation in the state at Raj Bhavan here.

The members, through their memorandum, demanded compensation to drought-hit farmers, assessment of crop loss, repair of defunct lift irrigation (LI) points and rescheduling of loan repayment among others.

Alleging state government’s failure to tackle the drought situation and farmer suicides, the delegation demanded Governor’s intervention into the matter to provide relief to the distressed peasants.

With the winter session of the state assembly set to begin tomorrow, the opposition parties are readying their strategies to corner the government over several issues including farmer suicides and drought situation.

On Sunday, the legislature party of Odisha BJP chalked out strategies for the ensuing assembly session. They decided to demand a white paper over the farmers’ suicides issue and the drought situation.
