Bhubaneswar: The newly-formed BJP government in Odisha may discontinue two schemes launched by the previous BJD dispensation in the state.

The BJP government may discontinue ‘Ama Gaon, Ama Vikas’ and ‘Mo Ghara’ schemes launched by the successive BJD governments in the state.

The Naveen Patnaik-led BJD government in Odisha had launched the Ama Gaon, Ama Vikas scheme in 2018. Under the scheme, the state government provided Rs 50 lakh to the panchayats to carry out the developmental works.

Similarly, the BJD government had launched the Mo Ghara housing scheme in May 2023. The aim of the credit-linked housing scheme was to convert all kutcha houses into pucca ones.

The housing scheme was supposed to cover poor families that were not included under the PMAY-G scheme.

“The BJD government had not laid down proper guidelines for sanction of money under the Ama Gaon, Ama Vikas scheme. The money sanctioned under the scheme was spent for the benefit of BJD workers. The new government in the state will soon take a call on the continuation of the scheme,” said Panchayati Raj Minister Rabi Narayan Naik.

Naik claimed that the Mo Ghara scheme has been nonfunctional in the state since its inception.

“No one has received any benefit under the housing scheme. The scheme was abandoned during the BJD regime,” said the Minister.

Naik also revealed that the BJP government will revive the Palli Sabha (consultative meeting) system in the state.

“The Palli Sabha system had been stopped by the BJD government. But, the new government will give importance to Palli Sabha,” he said.
