Bhubaneswar: A five-member delegation of the BJP led by its Odisha unit vice-president Samir Mohanty today lodged a complaint with the Income Tax Commissioner here demanding a probe into the party funds and bank account transactions of the ruling BJD.

The BJP submitted a memorandum addressed to the Chairman of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) through the Commissioner alleging that BJD had received funds to the tune of several crores from benami and suspicious accounts both from inside and outside the state during the 2014 elections.

The saffron party alleged that the BJD had concealed information about its donors by not reflecting those in its returns.

Suspecting that source of these funds could be from chit fund firms which have defrauded several investors of crores of rupees, the BJP demanded a proper full-fledged probe into the transactions and sources of funds of the BJD.

“We have submitted a memorandum along with evidence to him for probing the matter. A proper investigation can reveal that the money deposited in the BJD’s bank account was the money of 20 lakh depositors who had deposited their money in chit fund companies. The people of the state should know this. The truth will come out only if it is probed in a proper manner,” informed Mohanty speaking to media persons after submitting the memorandum.

BJP spokesperson Sajjan Sharma and senior leader Samir Dey were among the others who accompanied Mohanty in the delegation.

While Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had yesterday termed the allegations as malicious, fabricated and false, BJD spokesperson and Rajya Sabha MP Pratap Keshari Deb today reiterated the same by saying that the allegations were totally false.

“This is the return statement of State Bank of India. The allegation concerning Main Branch Account is not based on facts and is totally false,” said Deb clarifying to reporters today.

“We are also going to take legal action in this matter,” he added.
