Bhubaneswar: Petitions have been filed in Orissa High Court seeking annulment of the election of two more BJD MLAs in the state.

BJP leaders Parshuram Dhada and Brajamohan Pradhan have filed two separate petitions seeking annulment of the election of Soro MLA Madhab Dhada and Jaleswar MLA Aswini Kumar Patra.

Parshuram and Brajamohan had unsuccessfully contested the 2024 Assembly polls from Soro and Jaleswar seat in Balasore district respectively.

In his petition, Parshuram alleged that BJD’s Madhab Dhada was involved in a mining scam and he was slapped with a penalty of Rs 96 lakh. However, Madhab had paid only Rs 20 lakh as fine and he is yet to pay the balance amount.

Besides, the Tahsildar of Soro had recommended a certificate case against Madhab in connection with some other irregularities.

But, Madhab did not mention all these information in his affidavit while filing nomination for 2024 polls.

Parshuram urged the HC to declare the election of Madhab from Soro Assembly seat as null and void.

Brajamohan, in his petition, claimed that Jaleswar block chairman was the polling as well as counting agent for BJD’s Aswini Kumar Patra in the 2024 polls.

As per the rules, no elected representative can act as the polling or counting agent of any candidate, mentioned Brajamohan in his petition.

He has urged the HC to annul the election of Jaleswar BJD MLA.

Earlier, Congress leader Bhakta Charan Das had moved the HC seeking the annulment of the election of Narla BJD MLA Manorama Mohanty.

Das, who unsuccessfully fought the 2024 Assembly polls from Narla seat in Kalahandi district, has alleged that Manorama submitted false information with regard to her education qualification in her poll affidavit.
