BJP MLA damages Speaker’s mic amid ruckus in Odisha Assembly

Bhubaneswar: BJP MLA Nauri Nayak climbed on the Speaker’s podium and damaged the microphone amid continuous ruckus on the third day of the Budget Session of Odisha Assembly today.

Since the commencement of the Question Hour in the Assembly, the Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs trooped into the well and targeted the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) government for allegedly using parboiled rice—collected from across the state before the inauguration of Jagannath Temple Heritage Corridor Project in Puri—for preparation of Mahaprasad at the 12th century shrine.

The BJD MLAs countered the Opposition party by seeking apology from its leaders for allegedly politicizing the murder of a five-year-old girl child in Nayagarh in 2020.

The BJD MLAs claimed that some BJP leaders were making false allegations regarding the involvement of a few leaders of the regional party in the incident. The false allegations by the BJP leaders have been thoroughly exposed as a children’s court convicted a youth in connection with the murder yesterday and sentenced him to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment, they said.

Amid the din in the House, Nayak, the BJP legislator from Rengali in Sambalpur district, climbed on Speaker’s podium and damaged the mic.
